Twenty-four wrestlers ranging from 200 to 600 pounds step into
the dohyo (ring) wearing their mawashis (traditional loin cover)
as they battle in 31 round-robin matches throughout the evening.
Competing under traditional Japanese Sumo rules, the wrestlers
will fight to push their opponent out of the ring or knock them
to the ground in matches that can last anywhere between ten seconds
to four minutes. Patrons can expect an authentic Japanese Sumo
wrestling experience as solemn traditions like taiko drummers and
other pre-fight rituals are observed.
"Sumo has been the fastest growing sport in countries all
over the globe over the decade," said Noah Goldman, President
and CEO of Big Boy Productions, LLC. "Sumo wrestlers are amazing
athletes who combine power, speed, and agility steeped in ancient
tradition and spirituality."
The Sumo wrestlers competing in Japan's
national sport hail from countries all over the world including
the United States, Japan,
Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, the Republic of Georgia, Poland, Norway,
and the Netherlands and will be competing for total prize money
of over $1,000,000.
