Clean, Paint, Fix and Give Back! - "Imagine
what could happen if everyone had an opportunity to volunteer.
All children in need would find a tutor. Elders would get the
help they need to remain in their own homes. Now one would
go hungry or live on the street. These are ambitious goals
for sure, but they are possible," said Andy Nelson, executive
director of Hands On Greater Portland.
How would we
do it? One volunteer at a time, or in the case of Comcast Cares
Day, 2,000 volunteers at a time. This fall, Comcast, in partnership
with Hands On Portland and many other nonprofits throughout the
Willamette Valley, mobilized nearly 2000 volunteers for an amazing
day of service in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Volunteers
spent a Saturday morning cleaning, fixing, painting and giving
back to schools and nonprofits from Vancouver to Eugene.
"It always
amazes me to see how excited our employees get about volunteering
on their day off," said Curt Henninger, Comcast's
Senior Vice President and General Manager. "I think our
employees really enjoy seeing the tremendous amount of work that
can be accomplished at each of the projects. You walk away from
a location and you can see phenomenal change."
In addition
to Comcast Cares Day, employees volunteer year-round with a variety
of projects and organizations through the company's Comcast
Cares Program.
